Posted by Keith V. on 10/8/2006, 9:12 pm, in reply to "Oktoberfest update part 1 (match races)" I didn't see Trickle at any parties on Saturday night, so I assume he took it easy that night to get ready for the big race! In the 100 lapper, Dick had a really good run and ended up 7th. He passed over 15 cars and made a few tricky moves to do so! The race had no cautions and the top few drivers (Chris Weinkauf had a huge lead most of the race) lapped most of the field, including Trickle (but not til' about lap 75 or 80). There's not much of chance if there is no cautions. The only time I saw Trickle get passed was when he got lapped (he nicely obeyed the moveover flag for the leaders... for the most part!). Anyway, had there been a caution or two, I think he might of had a chance for a top three or something. Along the way he passed top Midwest stars like Steve Carlson, Nathan Haselau and his teammate Tim Rothe (who had a really quick qualifiying lap). Steve Holzhausen ended up reeling in Chris Weinkauf and passed him for the win with 9 laps to go. I hope to see Trickle run a few races in Rothe's car again next year. He does pretty darn good. I'd especially like to see him come to WIR cause' Rothe was the track champion there this year and they could get a really good set-up for Dick up there. And I hope Trickle comes back to Oktoberfest. If any of you haven't ever been to the LaCrosse Oktoberfest racing weekend, you don't know what you are missing! It's a great time!

First of all, a total of 58 late models qualified on Saturday for the 100 lapper on Sunday. Trickle had an okay lap, but it wasn't good enough to get in the "sweet sixteen" qualifiers. Several drivers actually broke the track record, with Central Wisconsin standout Mark Eswein being the fastest. Big names like Rich Bickle and Eddie Hoffmann didn't make the show through quauls or last chance races. Trickle would get a provisional anyway, so no big deal even though he had to start deep in the pack.
