Posted by Keith V. On Saturday, he won the 2 out of 3 match races against fellow old codger Jim Weber from Minnesota. Anyone who followed racing in the midwest knows that Weber was a pretty good racer himself. And anyone who's ever seen a match race before knows that the drivers haveto put on a good show. Now, Trickle was obviously faster, but he would let Weber get along side of him and they'd exchange paint and such. Weber actually won the first race, but Tricky Dick took the other two. He was just out there playing with Weber! Before the match races, they both came out on the front stretch for interviews. Trickle was out first and when Weber came out he lightly bumped the back of Trickle's car. Dick got out pointed at the back of his car, literally ran to Weber's car and pretended to throw a few punches through the window. It was hilarious! When interview time came, Dick revealed that he was losing his voice. A person next to me up in the press box mentioned that he'd been partying a lot on Friday night (and probably Thursday, too!)! I can't remember much of what he said (he was hard to hear) but what I caught was pretty funny. After the match races, Trickle and Weber posed for pictures and there was a lot more funny stuff going on! At one point, Trickle jokingly grabbed the checkered flag out of old' Jimmy's hand... I was in the pits during the day on Saturday and even though I was busy doing some work, I did notice that Dick seemed in fine spirits... By the way, he was driving the same Tim Rothe owned car that he raced at Slinger. More about that in my next post...
