Even though I was only 12 years old, I knew that I was seeing something very special on my first trip to Griffith Park Speedway in 1966. All through the sixties I wondered if other places across the U.S. had access to the same level of competition that I was seeing in Central Wisconsin. Once DT and some of the other Wisconsin guys got out beyond their home base to compete, it became evident to me real fast that our boys could race with anybody anywhere anytime. I never took it for granted then, and I don't take it for granted now. I haven't lived in Wisconsin for 25 years or attended races there, and never say never, but I can't believe that there will ever be the same level of competition in Wisconsin that we had the priviledge of seeing in those days. I read about State Park Speedway and the Dells struggling, and I hope that they can survive and be successful. But I hope nobody who was there in the old days ever forgets. I guess I'm yearning for those days every time I check this web site. And to whoever maintains this web site, thank you.
