A Cane Corso is not a great dog for beginners especially ones with kids. They are independent thinkers and require a strong leader from say one. Strong not to be confused with abusive! I don't know how much research they have done on the breed but it doesn't sound like much. If I was you I would read up on the breed yourself and start up conversations with them like really likes the look of "insert name here" so looked them up and did you know...and gently feed them facts about the breed they have gotten into. They may have done research on the breed and there is a training method that involves rolling and pinning the dog but this is only for dogs that have done something extreme like biting. The fact that they are doing this to a 13 week old puppy would make me nervous. Also the fact that this breed needs serious socialization from day one to avoid becoming an agressive or fearful dog. If they are not doing this I would worry. I would buy them a book on Cane Corso and tell them it was a present as a welcome for the puppy.
Monitor them and hopefully things will get better. Always becareful with your pets or children if this dog is ever out whether walking or just on their lawn. This breed is not for all first time owners but that doesn't mean first time owners can't have one and make a great dog of them.
