When purchasing a puppy that you might have the intent to breed in the future you will pay more then if you were just purchasing a pet. Also most breeders now have contracts that you have to sign and agree to the terms on and they can and will drop in to check to make sure you are following the terms they also have many friends as the corso community is a small one and not following said terms can result in loosing the dog and legal action. Most breeders have worked hard for several years and have put a lot of money and time producing certain lines of corso and they don't want to see all their hard work going down the drain because someone else thought they should breed their dog because he was cute or nice. There are too many corso in rescue and shelter because people breed their dogs for money or because they had a nice temperment. They health screen most of their stock and if something genetic does show up they are there to support and assist the puppy owners ( this is responsible breeders not BYB)I don't know which kennel you contacted and I don't know what their situation is if they charge you for a "breed" potential puppy and then let you do whatever you want with it or not but breeders that have put their blood, sweat and tears in this breed aren't willing to sell breeding rights to just anyone nor are they willing to let you just breed one of their dogs to the one down the road. They are deciated to preserving and improving on the breed. There are many breeders that will work with you on this if you are interested in preserving and improving the breed but I don't know of any reputable breeders that will just sell you a breeding dog and let you do whatever you want with them.
