As we draw closer to getting full recognition in the AKC, I have had one concern that arises. It is very important that the work and dogs “pre” AKC are not lost in the shuffle. What was been done in the past and what we are doing now IS the foundation for the Corso of the future. I feel we should leave as much information as possible for future breeders and owners of our magnificent breed.
Recently I ran across an awesome project that has been going on in Europe for several years, the construction of a huge, FCI worldwide, Corso database. This database contains pedigrees all the way back to the beginning of structured Corso recovery in Italy. These pedigrees include valuable info such at colors, hip score, titles and photos. This massive amount of info is yielding very accurate stats on color, hips, and inbreeding coefficients. There is a massive list of Breeders and what dogs they have bred and own. One can trace back the ancestors 10 generations and beyond. The information for each dog pulls of links to siblings AND offspring as well.
It is not only a powerful tool for breeders and consumers, but it is creating an elaborate record for the future.
I contacted Nancy Koper, the owner and administrator of this project, and asked if she would mind if we started one for the American Corsi. Together we have decided that the American dogs should be incorporated into the worldwide database.
As a result, I have volunteered and will be administrating the input of all the Corsi born or living in the US. (Like I need another project) These include ICCF, AKC-FSS, FPRC and any other dog imported and now resides in this part of the world. All information will be verified in order to have the most accurate stats and ancestral information available to the public now and for the future!
BUT I NEED EVERYONE’S HELP!! I need everyone one to email me their dog’s pedigrees, photos, and titles (the only US titles we will be posting are ICCF CH, ICCF GR CH, ICCF Reproduction CH, ARBA CH, Rarities CH and CCAA approved working titles) Hopefully I will be able to verify hips score with OFA and the CCAA list, if not, I will ask for verification of them.
It is FREE to input your dogs for the whole world to see. It is FREE for you to place the link from the database to each one of your dog’s ped & ancestral info/photos on your websites. It is FREE to be added to the worlds list of Breeders/owners that includes a link back to your website. For generations to come this database will be a key resource for breeders and owners research the Corso worldwide.
Everyone should know that this is NOT a CCAA project and is NOT club affiliated in anyway. This is born our or my great desire that the information about the foundation Corsos in the US will be persevered and the breeders and owners that worked so hard will be remembered!
Please note we will only except scans of official pedigrees from the ICCF, AKC, FPRC or other FCI. Many of our dogs are registered with several registries (ICCF/AKC) Please include ALL your dogs # so that they can be found no matter how a person searches.
Here is the link to the database. Hopefully it will contain as many US dogs as it does European!
