Posted by Butch Cappel on 5/23/2007, 7:11 pm, in reply to "Re: Exotic breed award" That is what we are doing with this certification taking that into account, and giving them a fair venue for the training they are able to do. This is a pretty common practice in all dog sports. When SchH started in this country every one started at a ScH 1, the they added the Sch A without the tracking requirement, then they went to a BH which is really a temp test. F. Ring starts everyone with a Brevet level before they get to their FR1, so this is a recognised way of starting people in most dog sports. I think this horse is pretty well dead, but, I will kick two more times in case I can get him across the road. I never like to pass up the chance to help people learn about K9 PRO SPORTS, and the benefits of training their dog. You say "I have attended one of your events, it seemed to focus on the "hit" rather then the obedience or control of the dog." There are a lot of local groups that put on what can be referred to as Tuff Dog trials. Some do some stuff around the country, and most have a "My dogs The Tuffest" attitude. I think that is probably what you saw, not a K9PS event. I can say that because we have all written score sheets that have been the same for 15 years so it is real easy to see what we emphaisze in K9PS. In fact here is exactly what it takes to be certified in K9PS as an internationally recognised PPD. Personal Protection division has a total of 250 points. There are four exercises, two have a "hit" in them, they are worth a total of 100 points. There are two with no "hits" they are worth a total of 150 points. 100 points are available just for the Obedience exercise. In the two "Hit" exercises worth 50 points each only 15 points are awarded for the "fight" what we call the "hit" the other 35 points available in those "Hit" exercises are all awarded for the handlers ability to stop the dog from the hit, recalling the dog to the owner, heeling a well controlled dog off the field after the very stimulating fight, etc. So you see Pete E, I dont know what type of show you witnessed or if maybe you just didn't understand the scoreing system for a properly trained dog, but if the emphasis had anything other than a very high standard of training and compliance to the owners commands it was NOT a K9PS trial. And as I said when I closed the first response. If you are more concerned about DIScouraging these people then we have different goals and the NW Working Dog Expo, and K9 PRO SPORTS would be a waste of your time.

Actually the CC owner has to work less hard, because the breed in intelligent and so willing to please. They just dont have the opportunity to train like the other breeds.
We have worked out the programs for the Exotic Breed, and for K9PS, in order to encourage people to train and enjoy their dogs.
