Posted by Butch Cappel Possibly because I have been working with Danes, Corso's and other giants and guardian breeds for decades, I have always pushed the K9PS board for things to encourage these breed owners to get back into what their dogs were bred for in the first place, human and home protection. To that end I am pleased to announce a new certification system designed for Exotic breeds. First what is an Exotic breed? Dogs not popularly percieved as, police, security, or military patrol dog, does not have at least ten years AKC or UKC recognition. Currently K9PS certification for a PPD title requires that a dog attain a 65% proficiency rating, at three trials, under at least three different judges. This assures the dog is consistantly reliable, and that there is no "good ol boy" judging going on. It has been brought to our attention that breeds like the Corso dont have access to as many trainers as say a GSD, or other popular breeds might. Not having an accepted "breed sport" limits them. Also many decoys will not work dogs that outweigh them, and trainers wont work dogs that dont come in the accepted "push button" variety. So a Corso or Fila owner may have very limited resources for training. To reflect this handicap K9 PRO SPORTS will offer certification for Exotic breeds under the folowing rules. A sixty (instead of 65%)percent score of proficiency in either division which must be achieved at TWO trials under three different judges. As we use a two judge system at trials this can be done at two trials also. We feel this will more accurately reflect the training difficulties faced by many Exotic breed owners, and will still honestly relect the working ability of their dog. We will offer this new system for the first time at the Northwest Working Dog Expo, There will still be the Training Division available to all that would like to see where their dogs stand in their training program. The Training Division awards engraved K9PS medallions to all that earn a 60% score at that trial, and all exercises are done on leash with training collars allowed. Also available for the first time at the NW Expo will be the new training DVD "Protection Training WithOUT a Decoy" How to train your dog as an efficient home security system. Hope to see you all there!!! Butch Cappel

K9 PRO SPORTS has always had the education and encouragement of "proper" protection dog training as it's primary mission. We have especially tried to help people with the less accepted breeds get into protection training (or any kind of training).
This DVD offers never before seen training methods to the public and will not be available by mail for several more months.
