Posted by Warren on 4/15/2007, 12:12 pm, in reply to "Re: Who's puppy" Please ask your sister ["Attitude"] about the character (i.e. working drives/ability) of purebred (pedigreed) corsos in Canada - we both share the same sentiments: THEY SUCK!!! Have you met and seen (in action) Tony Pallotta's Corso BRUNO?? Without a doubt an exceptional working specimen....but this 105 pound, above average [i.e., great] specimen has a scissorsbite!!... A scissorsbite is the most efficient bite in Dogdom; but the most efficent bite in Dogdom [as well in NATURE] is a very serious fault with the official FCI standard!!! [btw, have you ever seen an undershot homosapien??]... FYI, the width and breadth of the Zygoma or Zygomatic Arches (aka cheek bones) determines the strength and power of the Carnivore's bite (yes, the dog is a Carnivore)!! A wide Zygomatic arch allows for the greater insertion and development of the two major muscles ( Temporalis and Masseter muscles) responsible for opening and closing of the jaws... Examine the cheekbone structure/development (Zygomatic Arches) of bulldogs or Gripping dogs (e.g. American Bulldogs, Pitbulls, Dogos, Presa Canarios); the width of their Zygomatic arches and the development of their Temporal and Masseter muscles can be described as hypertrophic!...but the official breed standard (FCI # 343) describes the development of the Corso's Zygoma [cheeks] as "not hypertrophic!!"... FYI, the Cane Corso's ancestors were gripping dogs ("Cani da Presa")!!! As previously stated, Gripping dogs (Cani da Presa) possess hypertrophic cheekbones!!! Look at the picture again, and please describe the development/structure of his cheekbones (zygomatic arch, temporal amd masseter muscles). I am getting a little weary from all this typing - In my next post, I will discuss [expound] on the relationship between the Cane corso and the old- style "Mastino Napoletano" - I will also discuss the importance of a longer muzzle and the reasons as to why the preferred bite [dentition] for pedigreed Cane Corsi is the undershot bite [HINT: nothin' to do with function]!!! To reiterate, let's "rock n roll"...and please remember to bring some "ammunition!!" Ciao....Warren
