Posted by Curt White Thanksgiving back in Southern Illinois was the same, except back then, we didn't have too many deer...no deer season...no turkeys...so... We busted the crap out of Bob White Quail... Well...some of them did, anyway. I could never compete with my Stevens Model 94, 16 ga, single shot that belonged to my granddad. So, I upgraded to a Winchester pump...never did like it, but I still have it since my dad got it for me as a birthday gift. The last time I went with my brother-in-law, and his unchul, I was skunked! I had one Bob White, that I shot at, along with my bil's uncle...I like to think that I also hit it, but I know dang well he hit it...he didn't miss very often. Both of them carried a Browing Auto 5, with a plug...three shot capability, right...Often we'd get into a covey, and my bil's uncle would end up with four Bob Whites...He would carry a shell in the palm of his hand and could slip that sucker in smoother than silk! Anyway, after one of those skunking Thanksgiving hunts, I told them that I'd not go Bob White huntin' with them again, until I had a Browing Auto 5 too! Still don't have it...but, I bought a Stephens 94, single shot off the internet, because the one that I had been stolen. I killed more Bob Whites with it, and without a dog, than I did hunting behind dogs with two guys that would put me to shame any day of the week... Since I've asked you before about sharing some of your stories, I'm going to take the liberty of sending this one to my sister... She is the one that is slowly getting the computer skills. My brother-in-law won't even turn it on...and, if she wants him to looks at something...then, she better print it off and give it to him! Also, I'm going to lift your story and post it on the new board, since it is too good not to be 'Archieved'!!! And, speaking of Henry Johnson... I've heard a lot about him, and I've read some of his past articles in Full Cry. I know you still talk with him, so the next time you do... Tell him for me that I enjoyed his stories, and it looks like some of that story tellin' has rubbed off on you...also... You may want to return the favor, and give him the new Board's address!!!
