: Hi Paul, I remember that battle. It was the one where we were close to Cambodia. Our higher ups told us it was a major NVA base that even the French had been looking for, but were unable to find it. I believe A company was on a search and distroy mission, and happened to walk right into it. Charlie company was called into the fight, when some of our guys in A Company had been killed or injured. We ended up on our bellys in a streambed around the perimiter. Our CO at the time (I don't remember his name) called in for a jet strike and accidently dropped the HE rounds alittle to close to our possition and showered us with schrapmetal. With God's help, I was not hit, but our brothers on each side of me did get hit. I remember on the left of me was a big Panamanian fellow (don't remember his name)took some pieces in his backpack. My brother on the right side had a piece slice off his left arm at the Bicep. Luckily from what I remember we did get word that the doctors in Japan were able to save his arm. I believe he was sent home. If this was not the battle you were thinking of, maybe you remember this one.
Hope this helps
