Posted by The Gaffer on 1/2/2007, 19:07:00 The goal seemed to stir us into action and the shot for the goal was to be Libs last shot on target for the remainder of the game. Despite the wind, we started getting the ball down more, using the flanks with Mike and Egg's partnership starting to flourish. As the half went on, we had a few chances but failed to take them. Coming in at half-time 1-0 down was harsh on us but they took their chance, we didn’t. The second half was dominated by Vaults. The sum total of the Libs attacking was one decent cross from their RW who had spent most of the game in Mike’s pocket. Mike andEgg were combining well both defensively andgoing forward andwe created 4 or 5 decent chances throughout the half to take the 3 pts. The breakthrough came with a free kick on the left which would have made Bry proud. Rats has clearly been paying attention at training and got everyone organised The ball was floated in and Andy connected at the back post with a great looping header over the keeper. Towards the end, the 2 penalties evened themselves out. For the Libs, the big 10 held the ball up with his back to the goal. He knocked it past Roband Gaz andRob dived in. Whilst convinced he won the ball he should have stood him up regardless. Ben pulled off a great save and with the 10 encroaching before the peno was taken, a free kick was given. In the last min, Rats was put through and came together with their skipper. Despite his 18, sorry, 17stones he went to ground and the penalty was given. The kick was saved and the whistle went. 2 points lost in the reality of it and we needed to beat them to have a real chance of finishing in the top 2. The home tie against them, along with the 2 games against Argyle are now must-wins for promotion. What the 2nd half did show is that we have got the bottle to get back into the game when behind. However, every player on the pitch needs to start talking more. It’s something we go on about every week but it will add so much to our play. Ben 8 Didn’t have that much to do but took every cross cleanly and won us the point with a class penalty save. John Dev 6 Needs to get back the form he showed before Xmas. When he does things simple he’s immense. When he doesn’t he gets frustrated and swears at the ref. Gaz 7 Solid performance at the back and good to have his vocal element back in the side. Other players need to follow suit. Rob 6 Made 2 mistakes, 1st for the goal, 2nd for the penalty that could have been costly. Mike 8 Made up for his tantrum last week with a classy show at LB. Looks to be forming a decent partnership with Egg. Wonderful cross for our goal. Egg 8 Playing John this week could have gone either way. As it was he rose to the challenge and put in the work required. Wayne 8 Always looking to take a touch andcreate something for the team. Never flustered on the ball and, had the weather and pitch been better, would have run the show. Si 8 Came into CM and put in what you’d expect from the Poe. Hard work, tackling, pace. Had a great chance but their keeper pulled off a good save. Chris 7 Not the best pitch for Chris to use his dribbling skills and was kept out the game in the 1st half due to the wind. More involved in the 2nd and caused their LB problems. Dave 7 In my opinion, no-one should ever be blamed for missing a peno as you have to have balls to step up. Held the ball up well and clearly had the respect of Libs as they manmarked him. Andy 7 Took his goal really well and had a few more chances but luck deserted him. Not as involved as he could have been but solid display.

This is the match report written by the Vaults. It's quite funny they way it differs to our report. They think we only had one shot on target and funniest of them all- they thought we man-marked someone. Lol, we didn't mark anyone!!!! I wonder if things would have been different if 17-goal King had played??? Here it is:
Player of the match
Mike Neal
With the pitch that heavy, especially down the flanks, and the strong wind howling diagonally across the pitch any sort of decent passing game was impossible when playing into the wind. However Wayne and Si did their best to get their foot on it and try to play some football. The No.10 for Libs is clearly a good player despite his size, and they ran everything through him. He would always look for the best ball and tried to put their strikers in. We gave him too much time on the ball and allowed him to have too much influence. There wasn't too much between the teams in the first 10 minutes but it was difficult to get the ball out of our half due to the wind. A clearance from John Devine rebounded off their winger and put the pacey striker through. Rob H should have done better, lost his footing and was turned on the byline allowing the striker to beat Ben at his near post.
