Many thanks for your really helpful advice. I was baffled at not locating it on my recent trip as I had found lots of other quite wonderful plants, so wondered if I was either doing something wrong or looking totally in the wrong place.
However, from what you say, both the scarcity of the plant and that it's really best to be with a local expert certainly explains my lack of success in locating it!
Next time I'm down on the Lizard, I very much hope that I shall be in the company of Rose Murphy...
