I have been handed a hand written wild flower lexicon, a very detailed and well-researched work by Pauline Calcott. The work seems to date to the early 1990s. Pauline has now sadly died, her daughter is keen to know if the work is of use to botanists and if so what to do with it!
Having looked at this work (its in three A4 folders) I am unaware of a similar publication that enables one to find the local name of wild plants across the British Isles. The local names have been researched using a comprehensive range of publications.
For example the entry for Bladder Campion lists 35 local names and gives their county of origin. While the entry for Cowslip has 56 common names listed.
Has anyone come across such a work or have any views on it merits?
