I got a chance to return to the site and have another look. This time I rubbed the leaves, and got the scent of Thyme, so white-flowering Thyme would seem to be the answer.
There was a lot of the usual coloured Wild Thyme about at the site, with just this one patch of white.
Thanks for the link, I'll have a look at that site.
