Thank you for that useful response - however, ash trees hardly flowered at all. As you say, they normally flower before putting out leaves. This year ash flowers are almost scarcer than hen's teeth and small leaves seem to be emerging with some difficulty. And again, so many dead twigs ... time will tell.
