I reckon Ash trees are on time but lots of other things are early. In previous years I've noticed that some Ash trees aren't in full leaf (they flower first) until mid June here in Cheshire and as I look out of the window I can still see one with no sign of life at all. Some plants respond to temperature change and so this year would be early, some to light so would stay on time. This may be the answer.
