I find this very difficult because there isn't a single book you can get apart from Flora Europaea. I use local books which are limited (I'm going to Crete next week so I've got some small books about Crete flora) and I use Wild Flowers of the Mediterranean by Marjorie Blamey. For Austria you might be botanising above 5,000 feet so a book on alpines might be useful.
