Posted by Tim Harrison it sounds like Phacelia tanacetifolia to me (common name Phacelia). It's commonly grown as a green manure crop, even a bee crop, and escapes quite readily. It's a classic "what-on-earth-is-this" plant, and is a late-season flowerer. Rgds, Tim H
