I'd thought it looked like St Patricks Cabbage, but had discounted that due to the location. I hadn't thought of it as being a garden escape, it's about 200 yards up a hill from the closest housing. I've added a couple of close-ups of the rosette to the link below, if that helps anyone pin it down further. Regards, Audrey.
