Good point. After the plane crashed into the Swing Auditorium and it was torn down instead of repaired/replaced, things have not been quite the same. It was a draw for all sorts of venues and should have been saved. I also think that the demolition of the California Hotel was a mistake, and it should have been saved and given some status as a historical landmark or something similar. The Central City Mall never seemed to have the attraction that Inland Center did, and now downtown Berdo is a ghost town. 40 years ago it was always busy with the individual stores and walkins that lined E street. Harris' was a great place to shop, and it seems that after the mall was built that Harris' went downhill. I have not been to Inland Center in many years, so I do not know its situation, but it always seemed busy.
The city definitely does not need another mall with the way things are right now, especially across from Inland Center! That is not how a municipality should treat one of its main retail draws for revenue, but I have seen cities do many strange things that do not and did not make sound financial sense. Didn't San Bernardino finance an auto dealer several years ago, and then the auto dealer bailed?
Bring back the citrus and the vineyards!
