The differences between the punches allow us to return to the centerline when the centerline has been blocked. Quick examples could be (but not limited to) if the enemy blocks my punch in a downward/inside direction, I can use inside whip to come back around to hit. If the enemy blocks my punch in a downward/outside direction I can use outside whip to come back and attack the centerline. If I punch with my right hand and it gets blocked on the outside of my arm I can use outside diagnal to attack the centerline. If I punch with my right and now the centerline is not clear for me to continue with another centerline punch I can continue to attack the centerline use inside diagonal to attack from a different angle.
