Bueno..im going in the right direction which is a lifetime journey. your mention of the detaching upper triangle made my head spin alittle which is good. It will force me to think. i hope that you and your family and wingchun family are keeping warm in the Windy City! Again your site in the Bomb!
: when punching, there's so much to concentrate on, but at the same time, the
: mind can really focus on 1 thing at a time. To answer you first question,
: keep it simple, from the ground up, normally with punches several things
: can happen. While there's so much to right I'll try to keep it to common
: mistakes. From the ground up, all to often, focus ends up being
: concentrated on the punch, so more then likely the YGKYM will end up with
: weight shifted to the ball of the toes. So, to correct this simple
: problem, simply look straight ahead instead of at your fist when you
: punch. Your posture should be correct from that and you won't have that
: pinch lean which is common amongst most practioners. At the same time, as
: for the stance. Sometimes people don't isolate the punch from the body,
: and end up trying to put more into the punch then is necessary. So, after
: doing the punch, try to see if the squareness if lost first and foremost
: or if you see yourself using the body with the punch. When practicing do
: it in front of a mirror to help you out the best to see the corrections,
: and in time you'll get the awareness to feel the corrections as well.

: what should i be looking for or feeling to have the punch come from the
: ground up? I have slowed down in how i have been doing to the punch.
: trying to improve it.playing attention to my ygkym. But as far as punching
: from the my feet all the way to my hand im not sure. Is it just body unity
: and many many moons until i feel this for myself?
:
: the fact is, i've heard this from many students in the beginning , when i
: show them the correct way to punch and adjust things for them.. They'll
: say, Sifu, i don't feel like I'm doing anything. And I answer, then your
: doing it right. Surprisngly many are looking for some kind of exertion
: when doing the punch, when in actuallity you shouldn't feel a thing. And
: for many that's an awkward feeling when it seems effortless when doing the
: motion. There is body unity involved, but for the most part, don't worry
: about that to much. In stationary practice of just the punch, your
: actually concentrating on seperation of the top triangle from the body
: stance and looking for complete isolation.
:
: Or is there something
: that i can look for?
:
: now to look for certain things when you punch.. after the punch is
: performed, make sure simple things are checked.. Do not retract the punch
: right away, leave it out there for about 2 to 3 seconds and examine the
: punch for certain things
:
: 1) is it in the centerline
: 2) has my fist gotten tighter from the starting point to the end...
: imagine holding a grape, when you punch and then release teh punch you
: never squeeze the grape, it should be intact
: 3) how is my shoulder after the punch.. did i over stretch the punch or
: did my shoulder rise at the end
: 4)Is the punch at the correct height, you want to be at the zero point of
: the punch and be parrallel to the ground
: 5)when i punch and release it, is there much shaking when i punch, or when
: i release the punch can i hold it in stillness.. Remember you want to
: control the motion, you don't want a punch that's shaking all over the
: place, which can be attributed to several things like tension, lack of
: focus on the target, over stretching, etc.
:
: those are just some things to look into
:
