My name is Ann Reynolds and I am trying trace my great aunt Marguerite Layfield (maiden name, known as Rita who emigrated to Canada after the second world war to marry a French Canadian pilot she met when she was in the WAAF. Rita sailed on a ship from Liverpool called the Empress of Canada on 10/12/1947 bound for St John, NB, Canada. After this I can't find any trace of her at all.
Rita's was born in Liverpool, England and was the eldest daughter of George and Margaret Layfield (nee Radcliffe)and she had a younger sister who died quite young.
Rita's mother Margaret, my grandmother's (Lilian) sister died in 1943 and her father, George who, was a merchant seaman, died in 1957.
Unfortunately, I do not know the name of Rita's French Canadian Pilot.
My dad Albert Furey and his elder brother Dave Furey are now elderly gentlemen and they have asked me to help them locate and contact Rita. Every avenue I have tried has been unsuccessful and I am bow becoming quite desperate.
Is there anybody there who knows of Rita.
