I have been requested by Gwendoline (Bicknell) MacRae to make the following reply to "Canadian War Bride Lost and Found" published on this site:
In response to a "Canadian War Bride" lost and found posted by Marty Lund in January 26, 3005 10:14 p.m.
I did not realize I was "lost" as we all went through a processs of becoming Landed Immigrants and then, I hope, Canadians.
Or was the "Bride" unable to live with her husband all those years and only become a "wife" after beilng "found" in 2005?
I always worked outside the home. I took an active part in the United Church of Canada and in the Unied Church Women as well as the Moncton Council of Women and the Elizabeth Fry Society. After retirement I also joined the I.O.D.E.
Biw 85, I would say my life has been an interesting experience. I am now a widow, living in my own home - with Sam,my cat. My life has been enchanced by the Canadians I have lived, worked, and played with.
No offcence to anyone, but I never had time to spare - and just how long can you be a "bride" ?
My name is Gwendolline Bicknell MacRae which may be found on a brass plaquqe, left hand side as you ascend the entry stairs on Sobeys Virtual Wall of Honour, Pier 21.
