You cruise around the internet and find descriptions of what Vietnam was. Maybe Vietnam was those things in some places at some time. I don't remember it in that way. I find it hard to believe in many cases.I never got to see all of Vietnam and only served one tour in two different units in III Corps and later I Corps.I spent most my time in the bush but did spend some time in camps.Considering everything , morale was good. I never saw drugs used in the field. Did see them used slightly in the rear but less so than back in high school. Never saw an atrocity, in fact the opposite. Acts of good will towards the locals you rarely see towards fellow citizens here in America. The guys I knew gave it their all, I never heard them complain although they may have. Now as far as draftee or enlisted it didn't seem to matter, in fact I never heard it discussed. I don't think I could tell the difference. When I hear some younger generation person discussing the era all I can say is, you're talking about kids raised in the fifties and therefore have no clue what you're talking about. You really have no clue. And for those that ran off to Canada or found some way to escape duty in Vietnam, you can write your moronic accounts of the times, such as returning vets were not spit on, but you have no clue either. Then there are the talking heads on TV , why is it none of you experts served in Vietnam? as if that was a rare thing. It wasn't rare in my neighborhood , maybe in yours.
