I think just about everything had a nickname. Just type vietnam war slang into google and you should find your answers.
Start here:
: Hello everyone, I happened to read a Nelson
: Demille book about 18 months ago that was
: set in present day Vietnam. The main
: character was a Vietnam veteran. After I
: finished the book, I realized how little I
: knew about the Vietnam War and those who
: served. Thank you to all for serving and
: welcome home!....Since I finished that book,
: I have been reading almost non-stop about
: the war and was excited to see a
: "Special Topics in History: the Vietnam
: War" offered at the local community
: college. As my research project, I chose to
: compile information about the slang phrases
: or words that were created during this time.
: I've got a few already: "mortar
: magnets": supply aircraft at Khe Sahn,
: "thud": F-105, "ham &
: mother####ers": ham & lima beans.
: If anyone could give more info, I'd really
: appreciate it. Also, there are a few terms
: that I'm not sure of ("snoop &
: poop"?), as well as not knowing whether
: the term(s) is from the Vietnam era only
: ("REMF", "mules",
: "Jolly Green Giant", etc.). Thank
: you in advance for any help! Kim
