It's funny the things you hear people say if you're "tuned in". I suppose some can tune things out, I can't. The other day while transporting some young people to the lake they spotted a Presidential campaign bumper sticker. These three people are good students, straight "A" types. They began to discuss the pros and cons of the two former candidates (likely just parroting their parents). In the middle of the debate the phrase "baby killer" was used. Gee I wonder who they were talking about? It was just a few days earlier I heard someone on the radio say "vietnam veterans, let them go blow themselves up for their country".They were talking about vietnam vets in Iraq. Last year I traveled the USA and heard things in many states. The old lady at the gas station for some reason was telling the man parked next to her , "vietnam veterans are all losers". The young college age girls at the restautrant in Florida for some reason saying "F*** Vietnam veterans. I could list ,more I've heard it all, everywhere you go,year after year. beginning upon my immediate return from Vietnam to present.
I realised years ago there are two types of people ,those who matter and those who are irrelevant. My family and Vietnam Vets are relevant. Those who make stupid comments about Vietnam Veterans are taken off my list of relevant things. Doesn't matter who they are and there are no second chances, no forgiveness absolutely nothing, zippo ,nada. In fact I cut a Vietnam Veteran the same slack I would my child. You could call it love but it's not the same. However in all practical ways it is the same. All you other vets, you have a special place too.
