On 4/30/69, 1LT Raymond Krupinski led a patrol from B Co, 1st Bn, 12th Cav (1st Cav Div) to destroy an identified enemy embankment when they made contact. As he and his machine gun crew attempted to move in on it, SP4 Ambrosio and a medic were wounded. Lt Krupinski, while trying to remove the assistant gunner was also wounded. He went back to rescue the medic when another barrage killed him and SP4 Ambrosia also died of the wounds he sustained. LT Krupinski would be awarded the Army Distinguished Service Cross posthumously for his actions that day. These two men were the only casualties for B/1/12Cav.
