I am writing a novel set during the Vietnam war. The novel is about Marines, but many questions I have apply, regardless. I do have a 3 former vets helping, but they have very limited time and every once in a while I have what might appear to be a mundane question, and I need to have someone I can email on occasion. My problem now is that I am writing about a night ambush. VC are crossing the river, Claymores set against, and I want to drop mortar behind them before I have the claymores and m_79s go off? If I do this my LT would have to call in the rounds and would probably be heard, alerting the VC. I thought of moving him farther away but then how would he know when the VC wee crossing (it is obviously very dark). Or should I have the claymore go first, then have him call in the mortars? That is most likely what I would do if it were my call, because I would want the element of surprise. THANKS!
AND THANK YOU FOR SERVING, WELCOME HOME.
