dear war veterans,
hi, there is a tattoo i want to get but i am worried it might be offensive to veterans, in which case i will not get it.
i want to get a heart tattoo that says "love your fellow veteran"
the meaning behind this is that the human experience is painful and difficult, to the point of being like a war zone, and we should all see ourselves as united by our experience of pain and look at one another as our fellow veterans of life. and because life is so difficult, and because we are united in this way, we should all love and support each other to make life easier for all of us, and we should be forgiving and compassionate and understanding towards one another.
so, as i hope you see, my intentions are good. but i'm worried veterans of war will feel like i am minimizing the experiences of war and how deeply traumatic these can be by comparing war to life in general. (then again, sometimes life can be as traumatic as war ... i.e. extreme child abuse, extreme domestic abuse, torturing of political prisoners, etc. ... but of course often the suffering is less severe.)
what does everyone think? all opinions welcome.
