When I came back from nam in 1970 we were not very welcome. I kind of forgot that I was there and went about my life. About 1980 I decided to participat in the festivities on Memorial Day. There was to ba a parade. When I got to the place where it was to start there was a contigent from The VFW and one Group from the Legion. It was a sad affair. No other one showed up. I was really hurt and kind of shocked that there was no other vets other than those who belonged to those organizations.
I made up my mind that I would participate however I could. This went on for a few years until some memorials and the Wall was built. Then sudenly there was a lot of interest. Guys started showing up and the cities built reviewing stands. There were a lot of groups and individuals who showed up in fatigues with their medals pined to their chest. Boy was I proud. I did not keep my jungle fatigus but it would have made little differance as I had gained weight. Finaly I found a fatigue shirt at the local Army Nave store. I put my medals on and sewed my combat patch on (of which I am authorized to wear three).
I always regret not having taken any pictures.
Now I'm 70 years old and want a picture of the vets wearing their fatigues with their medals etc. at the monuments. Does anyone have a picture of any one or of any group with those shirts on????
Please send me a picture or two at (davebeaman@cwo.com). I will really be Grateful.
I thank you in advance,
Dave Beaman ( a hurting Vet).
