: Hello everyone, I happened to read a Nelson
: Demille book about 18 months ago that was
: set in present day Vietnam. The main
: character was a Vietnam veteran. After I
: finished the book, I realized how little I
: knew about the Vietnam War and those who
: served. Thank you to all for serving and
: welcome home!....Since I finished that book,
: I have been reading almost non-stop about
: the war and was excited to see a
: "Special Topics in History: the Vietnam
: War" offered at the local community
: college. As my research project, I chose to
: compile information about the slang phrases
: or words that were created during this time.
: I've got a few already: "mortar
: magnets": supply aircraft at Khe Sahn,
: "thud": F-105, "ham &
: mother####ers": ham & lima beans.
: If anyone could give more info, I'd really
: appreciate it. Also, there are a few terms
: that I'm not sure of ("snoop &
: poop"?), as well as not knowing whether
: the term(s) is from the Vietnam era only
: ("REMF", "mules",
: "Jolly Green Giant", etc.). Thank
: you in advance for any help! Kim
Mules were a one seat vehicle (kinda like a golf cart but no suspension had a wankle (rotory engine) I would like to find on now) Jolly green Giant was a CH-3E ie jolly green giant. Ham and mutha's were c-ration's from wwII and Korea and were ham and Lima beans most of us hated them but some southern guy's loved them so we would trade them off. what else do you want to know
