Hi, I’m doing an interview of Vietnam War veterans for my English assignment. If you’re a veteran who would be willing to take the time to answer these 10 questions, I’d appreciate it. Feel free to skip any questions that you feel uncomfortable answering. Send your answers to randomguyyy@gmail.com or send me an email on how to contact you for an interview.
1. In your opinion, what were the major factors that led to US intervention in Vietnam?
2. Do you think the US was justified in going to Vietnam? If yes, explain why. If no, why were you opposed to the war?
3. We know that the government kept some secrets from the American public during the war, and proceeded with some unauthorized actions. What were your opinions of the US government at that time?
4. How did you end up serving in Vietnam (drafted, in the reserves etc.) and in what way did you serve, your occupation?
5. What were your experiences with the other men in your company?
6. Do you have any memories or stories of the war that you are willing to share?
7. In the book we are reading, The Things They Carried, there are numerous references to landmines (Bouncing Betties and toe poppers) and other boobytraps. What were your experiences, if any, with these devices?
8. How effective were the medical treatments for wounded soldiers during the war?
9. Did your experiences in the war change your opinions about it? How so?
10. How has the war made you the person you are today?
