the thompson was taken off the us property books after Korea and later given the the arvn. As they were killed by vc they used the gun and were later killed by us then we carried them. I saw quite a few but the stocks were removed because they made it to heavey. It had slow cyclic fire rate but on the good side you couldn't jam one if you had to. They were blue steel originally but conditions mademost of it wear off. the M1a1 had the side cocking handle on the right side. I was 3/5 cav, class of '67
