i was a wrecker driver from an ordnance heavy maintenance company in saigon. i was able to "procure" an m1a1 thompson from an arvn officer who in turn found it in an arsenal left over from the french. the gun had a 30 round clip and was functional. since i had a lot of "down time," i was able to acquire numerous 45 calber rounds that needed a home! i carried the gun in the cab of the wrecker. i never used it in an actual firefight, but just for chopping trees!
