Posted by dirtbikemike i was at camp baldy for a night in 69. i had some buddies at LZ ross and they would come up to da nang for mail/beer/sodas once a week. they happened to be there when i was heading out to china beach for an in country R&R. they talked me into going to LZ ross instead. we got to baldy right before dark and had to spend the night there. sleeping under 6x6s, needless to say, we got hit. the next morning there were some gooks slicing up a water buffalo that got caught in the firefight. one of them had a 45 grease gun and he let me hold it. i got my picture taken with it, but i lost it over the years. it was pretty old and beat up, can't remember much else about it. it does make you wonder the history and paths that a weapon like that has taken over the years. i carried a 14 for the first six months i was in country, then i got a brand new mattie mattel with the round flash suppressor. the guys at ross had older models with the spear suppressor and theirs were so old that the bluing was gone. figures, grunts with worn out weapons, wingers get brand new. later, dbm H&MS-11,MAG-11,1ST MAW 69-70 da nang, chu lai, marble mountain and LZ ross for three days
