Good post Jen, and Patrick is right... You close the gap on runners almost as fast as a speeding car!
Here's my own reason for not using music: If you're serious about running - especially long distance running - then you must be aware of what's going on within as well as what's going on without. Are your feet slapping, are you forcing your breath, is your heart rate too high? You can only answer these questions if you're engaged with each step of the journey. And by being engaged you can become the best runner you can be.
It most likely won't make you as fast as Jen, but it will take her longer to close that gap on you :-)
