Are you serious? Witches? Have you consulted the Complete VCA website for book and series synopses? www.completevca.com I haven't read ALL of the books, but I've read ABOUT them, and that doesn't sound familiar, particularly the "witches" bit. Otherwise, could it have been "Darkest Hour?"
