John; It's great to hear from that chopper crew. The emergency call came in on a weekend, and as for Operations Electronics Division almost all of our married technicians were on the beach with their families. We sailed with only one or two comm. techs. and a few radar techs who had little experience with radios. As I remember, Jouett had over two dozen uhf transceivers, and during the rescue mission when a radio would fail, we just went to the next one and started it up. By the time we returned to San Diego, we were down to a couple SRC-20's.
I've always had admiration for your helo crew that had to launch at maximum range. Hope your kids appreciate the risk you guys took.
