Hi Bill;
I remember that July 4, 1968, We were steaming east and we held a "Fantail Frolic" with a barbecue on the Helo deck.
We didn't have any fireworks to shoot off but the gunner's mates opened the small arms locker and we had an imprompto target practice on the fantail using some Thompson sub-machine guns and M-79's. We would toss cardboard boxes into the wake and shoot the daylights out of them.
I hope you had a good Fourth, I spent it with my family, including my first granddaughter, Plus! my youngest daughter and her husband announced they are expecting in February.
I have many fond memories of my time in Jouett, and yes, maybe a few not so fond times, but I treasure them all.
