When we were in San Diego for the reunion it was very disheartening to drive by The Naval Training Center and realize that NTC was no longer there. It was very nice to see the USS Recruit (affectionally called the USS Neversail) still at here station. Many a sailor has crossed her brow.
I surfed the web and found that the USS Recruit was designated as a California State Historical Landmark on August 13, 2005. From what I read it looks like there is to be some renovations done to her in order that she can receive visitors.
I'm glad that at least the USS Recruit will still be there even though NTC is gone.
