Posted by LGBT Center on 10/13/2004, 9:17 am The protest was a great success! We do not have a set number yet of people in attendance from records, but I have heard estimates between 150 to 200 particpants (at least!). And to top it all off, we had TONS of straight allies. That gave me hope for the future, knowing that we are not alone in this struggle. I know personally that the protest gave me a sense of pride in myself that I had never felt before, and I am pretty sure it made a lot of people feel the same way. Preparation was an ALL-DAY event. We were working from early morning to make this protest the best that it could be, and along with the immense help from other organizations such as PFLAG and the MCC GSA and others (and not to forget the individual volunteers), we did it. It was a stressful day of preparations, but the end result gave us all a sense of accomplishment and pride. We definitely outnumbered the opposing force, perhaps as high as forty to one (if not higher). They attempted to make their case, but were ineffective in proving their point, unable to fully back their claims. This just gave us credibility and the knowledge that we are right in our causes. Thanks especially to Ken at The Good Beans Cafe' for again so graciously extending business hours to serve the protesters. Your constant help never goes by unnoticed. After a long day of trying to get our voices heard, we needed that relaxation a lot. There's nothing better than just sitting around with friends, drinking coffee, and having a good ol' time. We will soon have more definitive information concerning the protest and all aspects related to it in the near future. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the LGBT Center at UM Flint at by phone at (810) 766-6606 or by stopping in the office (we want to see your faces in the Center!!! Again, thank you ALL for everything.

First of all, we at the Center just want to thank ALL OF YOU who were with us either physically or in heart. We could not have had such an awesome turnout without your support. Secondly, to those who helped set up and maintain order... You rock!
