: Dear R. Nas,
: It is very difficult to predict the origin
: of a person just by knowing the surname.
: The surname Nas you can find almost in every
: town. I made a quick investigation for the
: concentration of Nas families, and
: established 4 districts where they are
: especially concentrated: 1) Siirt, Shirnak,
: Mardin, Batman area (south-east Turkey,
: close to Syrian and Iraqi border)
: 2) Gumushhane, Trabzon area (north-east
: Turkey, Black Sea coast)
: 3) Adana, Mersin area (south Turkey,
: Mediterranean coast)
: 4) Istanbul (this doesn't mean much, because
: Istanbul is a very cosmopolit city)
: Most probably, the origin of your name is
: one of the fist 3 regions.
: Nas is an Arabic word and means,
: "Human, People, Humankind". This
: word has also been used in Turkish language
: in the last century with the same meaning.
: The synonym of it in contemporary Turkish is
: "insan".
: If you have other questions in this matter
: just write me.
: wishing you good luck in your investigations

: Dear Sungu,
: According to my investigations the names
: mentioned in your message are concentrated
: mainly in following cities: SUNGU : Adana
: (Seyhan), Ýçel (Mersin), Ýzmir
: KANSU : Adana (Saimbeyli), Antalya
: (Manavgat), Balýkesir, Bursa, Ýçel
: (Mersin), Ýzmir, Kayseri, Kocaeli, Muðla
: (Fethiye, Bodrum), Urfa, Zonguldak
: ÖNEN : Adana (Seyhan, Yüregir), Antalya,
: Aydýn, Balýkesir, Bursa, Çanakkale,
: Denizli, Diyarbakýr, Eskiþehir, Ýçel
: (Mersin), Manisa, Mardin, Ýzmir, Kocaeli,
: Tekirdag
: BAÞUSTAOGLU : Giresun
: KAPTANLAR : Afyon, Antalya, Bursa, Istanbul
: KAPTAN : (There are many KAPTAN's in many
: towns, including Adana, Antalya, Balýkesir,
: Ýçel (Silifke, Mersin), Muðla (Fethiye,
: Bodrum, Yatagan)
: PAÞAZADELER : (I couldn't trace any)
: PAÞAZADE There are only some PAÞAZADE's
: in Istanbul)
:
: I excluded Ankara and Istanbul, because they
: are too cosmopolit. For me it is remarkable
: that Baþustaoglu's are living almost only
: in Giresun.
:
: I think that Adana and Ýçel are the most
: common cities for these names; so it is a
: possiblity that your relatives are from
: south parts of Turkey (Mediterranean
: coasts).
: I hope this information is of any help for
: you.
: Regards
: Orak
:
: i would be indebted to you if you could help
: me out with my surnames origins, im from
: north east turkey but the elders say my
: family came from south east but i have no
: means to research my surname is 'Nas' arabic

:
:
