filter capacity

I am not sure what I am trying to ask, but here goes: If I need 25 gpm for a field of crops being drip irrigated, how much capacity will my filter need if my pump is putting out 75 gpm/ Will I need a filter that will handle 25 or 75 gpm. I hope you can figure out what I am trying to ask!! Grant
