Xmas present for 5 - 7 year old

Does anyone have experience with the Bounty Hunter Junior metal detector? Is it a toy or would you consider it a decent working detector? Are there others you would recommend for this age group? Finally, do you know of any retailers in Calgary? Thanks! Dianna
