Posted by Dale (Calgary) on September 12, 2006, 3:49 pm Today, it was pretty quiet with only two other members of the Calgary Metal Detecting Club out trying their luck . . . Later on, Captain Tesoro waded in for a poke around as well. You can clearly see by the grid lines that this site has been well worked over! I guess the grassy area was seeing it’s share of excitement as well as one of the park employee’s let me know that he’d had to give a quick lecture and the boot to an amorous couple that he found over-enjoying themselves! I was sorry I didn’t have the CZ-3D as I could really have used the pin-point feature - but the Bounty Hunter QDII was really holding it’s own against the rest of the machines. My first target was probably the toughest to find. A pretty good signal and yet almost impossible to locate. Thank goodness for the Vibra-Probe or this one would have gotten away. It’s 10K and set with a nice pink stone. I decided to follow the grid tracks to the far end of the lake. Even though it looked like it had been worked pretty well . . . you never know what they may have missed. Well, whoever worked the grid missed a couple of easy finds! The first beep in the gold range was easy! I just looked down and saw this . . . They don’t come much easier! Of course, I was hoping ring but I’ll take what it turned out to be. A nice 10K gold ear ring. Not much further along, I got another beep and stuck my knife into the sand and popped it up. I didn’t even need to dig a hole . . . there it was looking up at me! I was still hoping "ring" but I'll take another 10K ear ring to add to the pouch! My only silver find of the hunts was this 925 silver ear ring. So, it was a pretty good day. Very little in the way of clad but a 925 silver ear ring and three nice little bits of 10K gold to add to the collection. I’m not sure what the pink stone is. It could be anything from Topaz to Tourmaline to a (dare I hope?) pink Sapphire. I'm hoping that they'd mount something nice in gold but only my jeweler will know for sure! I think that’s about it for this year at the beach – but - I’ll be back for sure! I’m pretty sure that everyone who hunted got their share of clad and treasure! There were some nice silver rings, a couple of excellent gold rings, a nice 14K necklace, clad in abundance and a few other baubles to keep us all happy Same time – same place in 2007??? HH Dale
With time running out for good weather, I headed back to the beach to see if anything was left at all! Over the last four days I’ll bet there were at least a dozen "diggers" looking for treasure.
