Posted by Dale (Calgary) The beach is closed for the season and they’ve drained the water so there was lots of area to cover. Wherever you see water in the above picture . . . it’s dry or mucky now! Apparently, we weren’t the only ones with the same thought! When we arrived, there were already a couple of other hunters out in the muck and by 10 am, there were at least six detectorists swinging various machines all over the place. I didn’t get to talk to everyone, but I’m told that Romeo, Don H., Randy P.and Kevin N. and I had been joined by a few others (that aren’t members of the CMDC). Of course, I took the time to tell them all about the club and invite them to a future meeting. While everyone else seemed to be concentrating on the muddy areas, I hit the sandy spots in hopes of finding the gold that had been missed before. I guess there are several people who hunt this spot constantly over the summer. While they were out getting their boots dirty, I had high hopes – but only came up with clad and a junky toe ring, beret and heart. I don’t know what everyone else found but Don H. came away with a nice silver ring and Kevin N. smoked us all with an unmarked gold man’s ring (with what may be three little diamonds!) and a 14K necklace. So, it was home with my clad and that was it. This Monday morning, I woke up to hear that we’ve only got a couple of days of really nice weather before there’s a chance of (dare I say it?) snow. With that in mind, I figured I should take one more chance back at the beach. When I arrived, I found one other hunter gearing up. Another former member of the CMDC so (of course) I promoted a return to the meetings. We headed to different areas of the beach and started swinging. My very first beep turned out to be this . . . It can’t be bad to start the hunt off with some gold! Then it was quite a while before anything else of significance. In the mean-time, my fellow hunter had unearthed an unmarked silver toe-ring and a thin bracelet that we both figured will turn out to be silver. I was working the grid from shore to the sea-gull poop line and was managing to add to the clad totals – although nothing like the day before . . . . . . but the best was yet to come! I got a really sweet signal in the headphones and scraped the sand with my shoe. Here’s what I saw . . . Sorry for the poor quality of the picture. I took it with my cell phone camera. It was only an inch or two down and I knew that I was seeing the glint of gold! I was very pleased to see this yellow and white 14K gold band. That sure made my day! As hard as this site had been hit in the past 48 hours, it was nice to see that the others had left something for me! Tomorrow is supposed to be the last day of decent weather before it gets cool, rainy and maybe worse. I may have one more shot at the beach before then. HH Dale

Well . . . I’ve never had much luck beach hunting ~ Alberta or otherwise! but Kevin N. from the club and I decided that we would go for a swing at a local beach on Sunday. I hadn’t been near this place in over four years so I thought "Why not!".
