Posted by Dale (Calgary) on August 24, 2006, 3:05 pm Hope you're all getting out there! It’s hard to believe that August is almost over. The time (and summer) is sure flying by! With only one week left in the CMDC Clad For Charity month, I figured I’d better get back out there and do some digging! Randy P. and I tried to get out last night. I’d done a little map reading and came up with a couple of possibilities for a hunt - but before we could even get started, the rain blew in to Calgary and that was that for last night. This morning, I figured I’d get out bright and early and try again. Here’s a Google Earth look at the space I planned to hunt . . . By the time I was done, I’d dug 156 coins to donate. Of course, the main item was pennies . . . To finish the hunt off, I managed to get a little treasure for me. It was practically the last signal to get dug up before I quit . . . My August Clad Total is now $34.01 and I'm hoping the rest of the members are out there digging too. It will be interesting to see what the club total is come time to make out the cheque! HH Dale
Hey Everybody!
There was lots of room to swing and I was hoping that it was well used so I could come up with a decent amount of clad to add to the charity bucket!
There never seems to be a shortage of them! There’s a few US pennies in there along with some 60’s, a 1957 and two wheaties – a 1941 and a 1954. I was talking to one of the neighbours and he says that the whole community is mid-60’s so I guess I was lucky to get them! Even though I didn’t come up with any silver coins, I was pretty happy with the rest of the clad!
This all came from less that half of the available space – so it’s looking like I may have to head back over there and clean the rest up! There was very little buried trash. As a matter of fact, I only dug up about four items of trash – two pull tabs and a couple of squished dinky toys.
There are no other markings besides the 925 but it looks like an older style ring. It was pretty black when I got it up but it cleaned up nicely and the stone sure sparkles! Unfortunately it's not a diamond.
