Posted by Dale (Calgary) on August 18, 2006, 8:53 am It's been a while since I posted anything so I thought I should get out there and find something to post about! This month is "Clad for Charity" month for the members of the Calgary Metal Detecting Club. All of the clad we dig in August is going to be counted, cleaned, rolled and donated to charity. I haven't been able to get out very often so yesterday afternoon I thought I would go and do my part. I grabbed the QDII and headed over to a park that I hadn't been back to in at least a year and a half. I thought it may have been replenished with some clad to bring in to the club. It was a gorgeous day out there and I started my usual grid pattern to see what may have been dropped. This park is pretty busy but I may have been beaten to it as there wasn't a whole lot of clad around. I was hoping for quite a bit more than I ended up with . . . . . . but I only managed just under $4.00. Still it will all add up in the end! That brings my total to $17.58 with almost two weeks left to go. If everyone in the club is able to bring in about $20 dollars each - we should be able to present our charity with a nice little cheque! While adding to the clad count was my focus, I have to admit that it wouldn't have bothered me to come up with a nice treasure for myself It was getting near the end of my hunting time so I started heading back to the van ~ swinging all the way (of course!). I was almost back to the van when I got an interesting signal in the headphones from the Quick Draw II. I was only one grid line away from where I'd started. It was an interesting set of beeps. Not solid coin signal – but not solid trash tone either. Hmmmmmm . . . . . . . I probed around a bit and finally tapped the target. With a little help from the Vibra-Probe, I managed to get my finger on it and pulled it up towards the surface. I knew it was close and here’s what I saw at the bottom of the hole . . . It sure looked shiny – and I was just a little bit excited as I pulled it up into the sunlight! A nice honker of a gold ring! Finally, here it is all cleaned up . . . Ahhhhh. There's nothing like the sight of gold coming out of the hole and back into the sunlight! It's supposed to be a nice weekend so I'm planning to get back out there and add to my August Clad Count. We finally got some rain and the ground is very diggable. I hope I can find a site that hasn't been recently hit so I can rack up some more "Clad For Charity". HH everyone! Dale
